Learning Languages
Learning a new language can seem like an almost insurmountable task, but with certain tricks and techniques it can be a lot easier than you might first think. Often, different techniques work better with different languages, and depending on your own mother tongue it can get even more complex than this, though just because it might be complex, does not mean that it will be impossible. In fact, these extra rules can often be very beneficial, and incredibly useful.
There are lots of reasons for learning languages, but an interesting one is that it can be easier to understand and use one’s own language if they have a grasp of languages that may have preceded it, or are similar to it in structure, pronunciation or composition. English is a Germanic language, but it also takes heavy influence from Latinate languages like French and Spanish, so it can be useful for a speaker of English to learn both German and French.
Some people need to learn languages because they have moved to another country where they do not speak their native tongue. In situations like this, it can be difficult to start learning a language, especially if there are few resources at your disposal, or you are alone. If this type of situation does arise, it is useful to go to your relevant country’s embassy, as they will be able to give you helpful advice about living in the country and speaking the language.
