People Seeking Immigration Advice
What do immigration advisers do?
Immigration advisers provide advice and services on:
- claims for asylum
- applications for entry clearance or leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom (UK)
- immigration employment documents
- nationality
- citizenship
- residence
- deportation or removal
- bail applications
- appeals against deportation
We regulate immigration advisers operating in the UK, ensuring that they are fit and competent and acting in their client's best interests.
How do I choose an immigration adviser?
It is a criminal offence for a person to provide immigration advice or services unless their organisation is registered with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) or they are:
- a regulated solicitor, barrister or legal executive (or European equivalent)
- exempted by Ministerial Order
Organisations registered with us are allowed to display the OISC's global tick logo. This shows that the organisation meets the standards laid down by us.
When choosing an immigration adviser you should consider what your case is about and its complexity, and choose an adviser who meets your needs.
